For a lot of people, Alexandria, Virginia is an ideal spot to relocate to or visit. After all it is close to the nation’s capital and is thus a great spot for modern and cultural recreation. Other than that, the generally pleasant Alexandria weather throughout the year is gives you another reason to drop by the city. 

Although the average summer temperature in Alexandria can be a bit warm, it never is too hot. Winters in Alexandria are cold but can have a wide range. Temperatures can reach as low as 27 oF but can also go as high as 47 oF. Winter days however, tend to have average temperatures of 34 oF to 39 oF. Its coldest month is January with temperatures at a little over 27 oF. Snowfall in Alexandria is considered mild even in January and snowstorms only occasionally happen. Winter nights and days can have temperature differences of about 16 oF.  

If you aren’t crazy about temperatures that are too warm or too cold, Alexandria weather in spring and autumn are ideal for you. Temperatures in the months of March, April, May, October and November have an average of about 46 oF to 65 oF. That would just be perfect for park and outdoor fun with the whole family.  

Throughout the year, humidity ranges from 69% to 82% in the mornings and 49% to 58% in the afternoons. Precipitation is well distributed throughout the year. Although the wettest month is May with 3.82 inches of rain, the other months receive a fairly similar amount of rain. Even February, which is its driest month, gets a close 2.63 inches of rain. Annual rainfall is pegged at around 39.35 inches of rain which is slightly higher than the U.S. average of 38.64 inches.  

Although Alexandria weather can be pleasant, it does have a price. There are some weather risks unique to Alexandria. Tornado risk can be 34% to 36% higher than the U.S average. The risk of hailstorms is also 52% to 56% higher than the national average. The risk of hurricanes and strong winds are more than a hundred percent higher than the U.S. average.  

There is no reason to believe that Alexandria weather is riskier than other city weathers. It would be a wise move though to check five day weather forecasts if you wish to visit Alexandria.
